Made Up
September 2019
I heard a person speak about dead weights in our lives. I feel like this one is huge in our society. It's not easy to let go and be ourselves. Sometimes that is the greatest reward we can give ourselves
Made Up by Becca Joy
this industry cost billions
create perfect self confidence
the ability to become flawless
makeup is an art form today
only a part of getting ready
the world sees your face
doesn't listen to more of us
how we look speaks minus words
who we really are to them
show people hearts glowing
a heart full of gratitude
a heart kindly inspiring
a heart all boldly content
ads Instagram throughout routines
saying more in thirty seconds
how to get 100% confidence
pluck those eyebrows regularly
fill wrinkles look younger
change natural beauty a s.a.p
in a photo the world sees
before and after always
did you do something different
wait is the hair no lips
photoshop this and more
the person we expect to be
expect to look more ethnic
this picture is not postable
tears of a broken lens cap
love an outfit put on today
no one will remember it
when you hang it up tonight
take a moment to be a kid
messy buns and mascara gone
what we did I can't remember
the people I can
wipe away minutes by minute
shatter that mirror pieces
write on each one
mosaic of what is loved
wings that we try to hide
make those shards sing
at the end of our days
look into a bare face
powder and lipstick and more
removed for now tonight begins
forgetting what was reflected
love every moment fully
in the light of campfires
powerful stars and friendships
our voices magnify what matters
asking diving into what matters
this is what beautiful looks like

Daughters
Daughters
I open up my Bible one day
to lighten a grey sky
people and places the daily graces
take one verse slow and steady
as the rain outside storms
my own tears are weighted down
your hands are powerful
turning clouds back into a rainbow
words make tears lighter and lighter
breathing pain in sapphires heart
looking at distant cosmos nightly
what I read earlier starts fresh
reflection may not be the full picture
until we close a chapter gracefully
knowing they will always be there
to usher beginning s of quiet thoughts
a piece of paper holds three words
happy inside my own flaws
peace with a world mass produced
the last one was daughter simply
I placed my hand on it's definition
that dictionary never felt complete
books illustrate girls powers
each one grown a little different
beautiful in a made up face
God strips it down layer by layer
making what's inside stand out
I wanted to be the perfect daughter
I longed for Rory's heart of gold
a pinch of Matilda's magic included
realizing what makes a daughter
someone who is not flawless
shown how to love herself
talk positively about their reflection
allow for self care to nourish
most of all she learned so much
makeup and mirrors only reflect
trying to be more then authentic
more then born a female
bravely letting nobody define her
a girl raised up to be smart
stand in the same halls as men
walk those miles of greatness
pause beside others heart centered
there ideas bring east and west together
she might not be well known to you
this is the person that I love
brave bold beautiful one of a kind

Insta not grammable
listen up I see you over there
walking into that store uneasy
the world tells you too much
Instagram blurs whats real
whats not an imperfect woman
take a step back really look
don't instantly compare d.n.a
ideas spiral virally and faster
lose weight,use latest product etc...
trends are meant to be broken
a picture is not a how to guide
how to change mirrors reflection
how to fit in at every turn
be able to change almost new you
make a post unfiltered raw edges
show personality masked in glass stones
shatter he classic mold genes
pick up each shard from less
repair does not equal expectations
caption reads "this is me in real life"
see more exit app and learn this
it is not the 2.d image seen
once inside things shift gears
we have all been past those doors
letting them become a wall breathing
feel small whisper rising slowly
maybe what I read has stuck
I don't have to be your canvas
view size on tag as one weight
losing it to wear an xs or small
why do we fixate on wearing that
just because a picture showed it
a brand seen with logo out front
fit this companies body type never
buying many peices without thought
first brick breaks fast fashion leaves
every day double tap womans love evolves
love outfits see a person last
automatically ask where its from
or whats the latest product scoop
they catch your glimpse of happy
its an instant gratification that fades
as more break she walks away proud
more self infused power to unfollow
umderstand all of us glow bright
I want more time put into posting
the pictures have no voice left
conform no longer heard today
buy me takes off and gets lost
found outside where doors hide
walls are invisible no longer alive
the world seems more manageable now
Instagram shows whats inspired
how to be a better human ourselves
step up and read more captions
we are heartbeats with wings
flying through Polaraoid instant film
camers lens zoomed in on life
in a second post appears digital
there are 60 seconds in a minute
35,000 decisons daily we make
so much weekly then imagined
imagine pages as disposable cameras
forced happiness brings real joy

Glow in the dark
what is this world I see around me
everthings deeper, under wonderful waves
these waters coming around the corner
a peice of one little heart grows
paper boats and tiny feet
skipping rocks and great big lakes
faces make, a joy grow brighter
I create my own glow in the dark
flew into;every rain drop smiles
all of tiny rays illuminate;quiet hours
stand upon a great treehouse in the sky
haf above special places and pixie dust
fly;trace mountains on electric wings
see happy places, awaking my creative hue
I started walking north by the lake
mystery follows this a curiosity sings
of a world fueled by questions
tangled in animal prints and campire smoke
each way I turn brings more pages
these books gather dust, googles alive
I asked what each volume could not say
where do deer go once I am asleep?
is the sun in the sky colored orange and red?
can we touch the moon and bottle it up?
how many stars are shining?
what does the nigthts movie look like?
always wanting;no sleep one bit
my feet heard no sounds, silence
really each glance more to see
flashlight may you show my need
a drop of rain is comforting heartbeat
I let it fall on pretty awesome day
walking back from mystery unfound
under clouds masked through tree roots
leaves sing, water pours quicker
I stop by a well worn dock
feeling like my world is frozen
this was my way of breathing deep
warmth of day closing these steps
journal entries written in colored ink
time every second was a minute
not realizing there is light;smiles
far away thunder talked to me
my one room cabin big in personality
one week and scribbles seem imperfect
the treehouse is no longer small
each tree grew bigger too fast
I am now that person so vibrant
jornal poems and advice reign true
making it into my new book to come

God's ecosystems
the magic of sunny days
my eyes see you in windows
a ray, always wild creature
catch joy in the sunrise
the magic of our world
waking up;fast footsteps
minutes looked upon a screen
what is all around us?
the magic in slowing down
words deeper intentions
apps not open,wifi unavailable
a greater love of real life
the magic of tiny details
a hike full;natures superheroes
look at briliant systems
eco meets an altered ego
the magic of indie adventures
paths created for humans
miles trekked beyond neon
no sign of gps,or miles to go
the magic that Jesus brings
always delivers a great surprise
hear a voice so loud
this is what you needed
the magic He carries
starts by familliar places
more in eyes of grace
glance,see a newness erupt
s spell orbits every turn
splash,sun follows deep breaths
I can feel gravity lighten clouds
His shadow never leaves
deeper still where sounds magnify
rediscover two loves for joy glows
tiptoe around wild untamed homes
leantos ground ink to pages
bye,pairs of thoughts create words
my own red letters appear
hands jumpstart a trails voice
prayer in stillness, story of courage
He led a quiet little daydream
last letter;one postcard frozen view
your glimpse into a bit of magic
I feel your ecosystems never end
we have the power inside
decide,where good rises
our footprints trace histories
what is your magical power?
